INFO: No Startup Character error when uploading to the terminal.
INFO
Applies To: ITScriptNet V1/V2
When attempting to upload to the terminal, the PC software displays a No Startup Character Received error.
DETAILS
When the PC software attempts to send a file to the terminal, it waits for the terminal to send a Startup Character indicating that the terminal is awaiting a transmission. If this character is not received within approximately 30 seconds, the PC software will display this error message.

Troubleshooting Tips

When the terminal is in Receive mode and placed in the cradle, it will poll the PC every few seconds as it waits for a transmission. The COMM light should flash once every few seconds as it polls. If not, the terminal may be configured for the wrong serial method. For example, the 7300 or 7400 may be configured to use IrDA (Intellibase) when it is actually using the IR (standard) cradle or vice versa. Use the Edit Configuration screen on the terminal to check the port the terminal is using for communication.

If the COMM light is blinking, the terminal is sending poll characters to the PC. You can use Windows HyperTerminal to see if those characters are being received by the PC. The Cradle serial settings should be 9600 Baud, 8 data bits, no parity. Once HyperTerminal is connected to the serial port, the character 'C' should be received every time the terminal polls. If not, then you may be connected to the wrong PC serial port, or you may have the wrong serial cable (crossover instead of straight), or your serial port may not be functioning.
