SQL CE

Is there a way for me to test the new SQL CE functionality without a device license? I have attempted to test using the PC Client and a PDA, both of which seem to recognize I have SQL CE installed, but no device license(s).
We have a registered copy of 2.4 that we are currently using. I am testing the possible upgrade to 3.1, and SQL CE offers some real potential for me in updating validation files. However, I need to test it out first, determine what kind of time is involved to convert the validation files I currently update to SQL CE and SQL queries.

Currently, SQL CE only works with a device license. We don't have a demo mode for the device, although if you have a Designer license you can test in the simulator.
You are right that the process of importing validation file data into SQL CE is fairly slow. It can only import a few hundred records per second. As far as we have been able to determine, it is a combination of the speed of the SQL CE engine, and the slow write time of Flash file systems.
We'll discuss this internally and see if we can find a way to allow a demo mode with SQL CE. |

Thank you for your reply.
A few hundred records per second would be great by me!! I am interested in the ability to update a single validation file record, and how quick that might be, vs what I have to do currently in looping the text files and re-writing every record in them while 'updating' the one record I am interested in.
I do have a designer license, but I can not afford to install 3.1 on that machine at the moment as I continue to maintain the 2.4 version of the program. I will have to wait to test the new SQL CE capabilities until we are able to make the upgrade to 3.1 across the server and devices. I really need to test the SQL CE on the device, since that is where it matters. Running on a PC, everything is nearly instantaneous regardless of file format.
